ABOUT KASIA
I have rebuilt my life more than once.
I know what it feels like when the life you built stops fitting.
My work is grounded in real experience of change, resilience, reinvention and choice.
01 / MY STORY
Starting over
I left Poland about 24 years ago. I spent fifteen years in Canada, and altogether I have emigrated three times, each time starting again.
Six years ago, I flew to Spain for a two-month business trip. COVID closed the borders and I had no choice but to stay. My marriage officially ended over a divorce Zoom call, and at 45 I was living alone for the first time, in a country I had not chosen, building a new life from scratch.
Around that time, my father’s memory began to fade. For the next few years, I traveled between Spain and Poland to help care for him and spend as much time with him as I could.
Those years taught me to stay focused on what I could control, keep letting go of what I could not, and stop postponing what mattered.
I stopped saying ‘later’.
02 / CLIMBING
I climb high mountains.
On one of my first high-altitude climbs in Nepal, I remember hearing my own mind produce a very convincing list of reasons to stop. I did not.
Years later, I ran the Everest Marathon after someone told me I couldn’t.
Experiences like that have taught me something I use constantly in my work: your attitude matters. Your mind can have an opinion, but it does not get the final vote.
Not every situation calls for pushing through. Sometimes the right choice is to stop, adjust, ask for help or change direction.
The point is being able to notice what is happening, and choose your response rather than simply follow the first familiar one.
03 / THE ROLLERCOASTER OF CHANGE
The Rollercoaster of Change
Around the same time, I became well acquainted with change storming through my life. I started describing change as a rollercoaster because it rarely behaves the way we want it to.
Just when you think you are moving forward, something pulls you backwards. The moment you get comfortable, something changes again.
Sometimes you choose the ride. More often than not, it chooses you. And when it happens, the useful question becomes: What do I need, and what do I do from where I am now?
That idea became The Rollercoaster of Change, and it still shapes the way I work and live.
We cannot always change the circumstances.
We can always change how we respond to them.
